She headed the criminal legal section of the UN Mission in Kosovo[2] and was later appointed Director of the department of Judicial Administration there.[3] She was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolton South East in the May 2010 general election.[4] She became Shadow Minister for International Development in April 2020.[5]
