The dispute began in 2019, when Rooney accused Vardy of leaking posts from her private Instagram account to the Sun newspaper. In 2022, the dispute escalated to the High Court of Justice, in which Vardy sued Rooney for libel. On 29 July 2022, the court dismissed Vardy's claim on the basis that Rooney's statements were substantially true.
